Late blight alert for Norfolk potatoes

High numbers of late blight spores have been found in two spore traps placed near Delhi, triggering an alert for growers to make sure that their crop, especially the new growth is protected.

Potato consultant Eugenia Banks says the area “has received enough rain recently to create favourable conditions for disease development.”

Some growers here have begun to top kill their fields.

Banks says tank-mixing Reglone with Copper Hydroxide (e.g. Parasol) should ensure that spores landing on stem areas which are not killed by Reglone will be killed by Copper.  But she cautions the label states that Parasol should not be applied within two days of harvest.
